TENT house for contemporary circus, is looking for a new junior member for the Supervisory Board. Are you someone who would like to be involved in supporting young talent in performing arts and culture?

Amsterdam-based TENT is the place for contemporary circus in the Netherlands. Since its foundation in 2010, TENT has been actively involved in the development of Dutch circus by supporting makers on various levels and making their work visible at home and abroad. TENT is therefore firmly rooted in the Dutch cultural field and has a good international network. The team consists of five permanent staff members, including three board members, and a changing team of freelance circus makers, technicians, producers, and artists.

Mission and vision

TENT supports makers in all stages of their artistic development and brings makers and audiences together. As an independent production house, active both in the city and the country, we offer a home to makers with diverse artistic, cultural, and geographical backgrounds. In this way, we strive for a varied and high-quality supply of circus in the Netherlands. TENT works closely with numerous partners in the field and encourages collaboration between makers and artists from different disciplines.

Contemporary circus

Originally, circus was on the fringes of society with nomadic performers displaying their arts. Over the past century, circus has evolved into a multifaceted art form that combines several disciplines. Through constant interaction, circus is growing into a more complex art form with several layers of meaning.

Supervisory board

TENT Foundation works according to the ‘supervisory board model’. This complies with the three codes (Governance Code Culture, Diversity & Inclusion Code, and the Fair Practice Code). The board consists of five experienced professionals with diverse backgrounds and interests, who together and from their own expertise supervise the ins and outs of TENT. Besides participating in the regular meetings, each member of the board is able and willing to advise the board of directors requested and unrequested or sparring in the interim. Within the supervisory board, we want to continue TENT’s philosophy of talent development: guiding and supporting young talent in the development of professional skills.

Who are we looking for?

For this junior position, we are looking for someone with an interest in the cultural field, preferably with circus training or in the final stages of it. The ideal candidate is proactive, eager to learn and wants to gain experience in the cultural sector. We aim to have a diverse council, so female candidates and people from different backgrounds are encouraged to apply. As a junior member of the Supervisory Board, it is important that you inform the council about how young people think about performing arts, culture, and circus.

What do we offer?

As a member of the Supervisory Board, you will have the opportunity to spend two years looking behind the scenes of TENT, learning about entrepreneurship and supervision. A mentor will guide you

in this process. You can share your own insights and influence the course of events at TENT. You will also be invited to performances supported or produced by TENT. The Supervisory Board performs its duties unpaid. Costs incurred, such as travel expenses, are reimbursed.

How much time does it take?

3-4 times a year, the Supervisory Board meets with the TENT Board in Amsterdam to discuss plans and look at their realisation. Each member is required to prepare for the meetings and is expected to be present on important occasions, such as premieres. Additional commitment may be required in special situations.
